Corporate recovery professionals need to get value from all assets in a business.
Intangibles are becoming increasingly important to all types of companies, but
particularly in the UK with the advent of the ‘information or knowledge economy’
and our dependence on finance and services. Within some companies it may be just
about the only asset.
But how do you discover assets you can’t see? And how much are they worth?
Early action at pre-appointment investigation stage is absolutely vital. Time
really is important to discover and deal with intellectual property assets.
There are some fairly obvious solutions. Patent searches, look at receivables
for royalties, or enquire of the management. However, intangible assets come in
all sorts of guises – software development, databases, contracts, loan books,
design libraries and of course websites to name but a few.
Corporate services director David Fawcett has become the expert, not only in
spotting intangible asset opportunities, but in providing valuation guidance in
this difficult and time consuming but fast growing and valuable area.
