Mirroring the success they have had in their working lives, they now look set
to exceed this target by as much as £5,000 thanks to generous donations.
The team, including local commercial property experts Bob Fletcher of Sanderson
Weatherall LLP and David Furniss of BNP Paribas, travelled a total of 1,004 miles
and spent over 70 hours in the saddle.
The trip aimed to raise funds for a number of charities including Tree Aid, Macmillan
Cancer Support, Alzheimer's Society, Cancer Research UK, Leukaemia & Lymphoma
Research, Hospitality Action, St Oswalds and NSPCC.
Bob Fletcher, Director of Retail Agency for Sanderson Weatherall LLP, said: “It’s
been a fantastic challenge and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people
to undertake this with. Our target was to finish in ten days and I’m extremely
proud we made it.
“We couldn’t have done it without the great support we received, so a big thank
you to all the companies that helped us along the way including Endura, Montane,
Continental Cycle Tyres, Lucozade Sport, TORQ, M. Steel Cycles, ITPS, Connect
Physical Health Centres and North East Audi.
“I’ve been keeping an online diary via Sanderson Weatherall’s blog and I’m told
it’s proved popular, hopefully people have enjoyed following our adventures and
it’s inspired others to go out and push themselves, all in the name of good causes.”
The other members of the group that rode with Bob and David are Andy Tiplady
from 3663 Food Services, Jeff Wild from environmental and engineering firm, AECOM
and Steve Ralph from IT software specialist, Oracle. Paul Casebourne from Engineered
Solutions, supported the group over the ten days, driving, cooking and setting
up camp.
The trip started on Wednesday 23 June and saw the team endure varying conditions,
from the best of the summer heat to gale force wind and rain. On average the team
spent eight hours a day cycling and travelled across a range of different terrains,
ascending 70,000ft in total - twice the height of Mount Everest!
Now the trip is complete, the team will take a well-deserved rest before hanging
up their helmets and returning to their day jobs.
